This Memorial Day weekend we pay tribute to those brave men and women who have died while serving our country.  During these days, individuals hold traditions dating as far back as 1868, when Memorial Day was first observed and flowers were placed on the graves of fallen soldiers.  People continue to hold parties, display the American Flag on their houses, attend parades, or just spend quality time with their families over the holiday.

Go out and have some fun this Memorial Day weekend by attending the following events, where one of Road Scholar Transport’s awareness trucks will be making an appearance.

On Sunday, May 29th, stop by Mcdade Park in Scranton, PA where, for the first time, it will be host to a Cars for a Cause Show & Shine.  Beginning at 9 in the morning until noon, individuals will be able to register their cars into the show.  Entries cost $10 and all proceeds will benefit Autism research.Autism Speaks

In attendance will be Road Scholar’s Autism Speaks tractor trailer, spreading awareness of the organization in an attempt to move one step closer to a cure.

Whether you are interested in car shows or not, Mcdade Park has something for everyone.

For those active, athletic individuals, the park features a softball field, basketball, tennis, and bocce courts, large field for soccer and football, and an Olympic-sized pool to cool off.

Upset that you forgot your basketball or football?  The park also offers free sports equipment rentals.

Or maybe you just want to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather.  Take in the beautiful scenery by taking a hike on the trail and stopping to visit the cancer memorial garden and arboretum.

Afterwards, take a break in one of the two pavilions or picnic areas as your kids have fun running around the large fields and fishing in the ponds created especially for them.Lackawanna Coal Mine

Then again, it is Memorial Day.  Why not pay tribute by exposing your family to a little history by taking a tour of the Lackawanna Coal Mine or Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage Museum?

Drop by this Sunday and show your support at 1 Bald Mountain Road, Scranton, PA and be sure to visit Road Scholar’s Autism Speaks truck.
It wouldn’t be Memorial Day without a parade.  This year, Taylor, PA will hold their annual parade at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 30th (Memorial Day).

Stop Bullying

And be on the lookout for a new addition this year!  Road Scholar’s most recent awareness trailer, Stop Bullying, will be processing in the parade reminding children to “Stop Bullying, Slow Down and Think, and Go Report Bullying.”

Visit Road Scholar’s Facebook page for a schedule of awareness events near you.

Have a safe Memorial Day holiday from the staff at Road Scholar Transport!
