It’s Time for Some Madness…Road Scholar’s NCAA Tournament Tips Off

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

NCAA ChallengeThe term has been around since 1939 when Illinois High School official H.V. Porter coined the term “March Madness” in an essay he had written for the Illinois High School Association’s magazine.  In the 1980’s, the term widely spread to refer to the NCAA playoff series occurring each March.

It’s that time of year again to start filling out your brackets and hit the court for Road Scholar’s NCAA Tournament Challenge.

Starting this Monday through Thursday (9:15 AM cut off time), individuals can make their NCAA picks for a chance at winning great prizes.

It’s easy to play.  Just go to http://www.roadscholar.com/contestgames.php and click on the NCAA Challenge icon.  Once you complete a simple and fast registration form, you will be joined into the RoadScholar.com pool.

Simply choose the winner of each game, but hurry, the deadline to make your picks is Thursday, March 15th at 9:15 AM with the second round of games tipping off at 12:15 PM.

The person with the most points at the end of the tournament will win a prize with the point system being as follows:

-Round of 64:  1 point per correct team
-Round of 32:  2 points per correct team

-Sweet 16:  4 points per correct team

-Elite 8:  8 points per correct team

-Final 4:  16 points per correct team

-Finals:  32 points

In the event of multiple individuals having the highest score, the tiebreaker will be used.

RoadScholar.com’s NCAA pool allows you to easily keep track of each day’s games as well as your picks, provides an analysis of the matchups and top 25 teams, and gives you the option of printing out your bracket.

And that’s not all the fun you can have by going to www.roadscholar.com.  Join in one or all of Road Scholar’s other online challenges including our PGA Challenge (beginning in April) and NASCAR Challenge.  Just choose the top ten drivers you believe will finish each race to earn Fantasy Points. The person who pulls into the winner’s circle each week with the most Fantasy Points will receive a prize.  You need not play every week to win and can join at any time.  However, the grand prize will only be eligible to those who have played at least 15 weeks. The person with the best overall scores (chosen by the individual’s 15 highest scoring weeks) will win the grand prize.

Road Scholar’s Awareness Truck to Attend Country Concert & Motorcycle Ride Benefitting Cystic Fibrosis

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

Paige Ceaser

Meet Paige Ceaser.  Like Richard Weiss, who sparked the trademark “65 roses” when he couldn’t pronounce his condition, Paige is a young four-year-old girl who has been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at birth.

Knowing that there is no cure YET for the hereditary condition affecting nearly 1,000 additional individuals a year, Paige’s family took immediate action, spreading awareness and hosting events to raise money for a cure.  And this year is not any different.

The American Legion Post 781 will once again play host to the 4th annual country concert and motorcycle ride benefitting cystic fibrosis.

The event will take place on Sunday, August 21st at the American Legion Post 781 in Mountain Top, PA and will feature two main events.

The first is a 65 mile motorcycle ride beginning at the Wilkes-Barre Kmart, proceeding through Conyingham Valley and ending at the American Legion Post 781.  Those wishing to participate in the ride can register from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at the Wilkes-Barre Kmart with the cost being $10 per person.  Individuals will also receive coffee, donuts, and water from Dunkin Donuts with the first 200 registrants receiving thank you bags.

Last year the motorcycle run was rained out, but regardless, the event still raised $5000 with nearly $30,000 throughout the last few years.

The second main event features a concert given by Kartune, Farmers Daughter, Jeanne Zano, Tommy Guns, Lena & South Street, Big Carl and Sundance and Crystal Martinex, who also has Cystic Fibrosis.

The concert starts at 1 pm with admission costing $5.00 and those 12 and under granted entrance for free.

But that’s not all.  There will also be food and drinks, including a $5.00 pig roast meal and $1 Coors and soda, raffles, vendors, games, face painting, temporary tattoos, pony rides, Young’s Funny Farm, and more.

Road Scholar Transport’s Cystic Fibrosis tractor trailer will also be at the event furthering the effort to raise awareness for the disease.  This 53’ bright red tractor trailer features a young cystic fibrosis survivor surrounded by 65 multi-color roses, the organization’s trademark.

Road Scholar has created an awareness campaign in order to spread awareness for various charities/foundations including The American Breast Cancer Foundation, The International RETT Syndrome Foundation, Make a Wish Foundation, Stop Bullying, and more.  Visit www.roadscholarawareness.org to view all of Road Scholar’s awareness trucks.

It’s Time to Make Your Picks for Road Scholar’s British Open Championship Online Challenge

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

We watched as Charl Schwartzel won The Masters and Rory McIlroy swung his way to an eight stroke edge over his competition, winning the U.S. Open.  Now, the third (and oldest) of the four golf major golf tournaments is underway.

the open championship

Beginning tomorrow, July 14th, The British Open Championship (also known as The Open Championship) will be teeing off at the Royal St. George’s Golf Club in Sandwich, Kent, England where it will be played through the 17th.

The British Open started back in 1860 where it was won by Scottish player Willie Park Sr.  The Scottish continued to win the tournament every year until 1890 when it was won by Englishman John Ball Jr.  It wasn’t until 1921 that an American, Jock Hutchison, took home the trophy.

Last year’s Open Championship was played at the Old Course at St Andrews, Fife, Scotland with South African Louis Oosthuizen taking first.

Royal St. George's Golf Course

This year, Royal St. George’s Golf Club will be hosting the event for its fourteenth time with its last being in 2003.  It was this golf course in 1894 that became the first outside of Scotland to hold The Open (http://www.linksgolfstandrews.com/events/golf-courses-england.htm).

Now you can enjoy the Championship even more by getting involved in the competition.  And the best part is, you don’t even have to know how to swing a club!

Road Scholar Transport is giving you the chance to win great prizes during the British Open by simply picking who you believe will finish in the top ten.  Participants will receive points for the place in which their golfers finish and bonus points if they pick them to finish in the right place. Those wishing to participate can make their picks now at http://roadscholar.golf.upickem.net/golf/registration/login.asp.  It’s that easy!
Don’t forget to go to www.roadscholar.com for more games and contests.

Social Media Usage Encouraged Among Trucking Companies

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

social mediaAn article posted in Transport Topics yesterday encourages trucking companies to take an initiative that Road Scholar Transport has been doing for a year now…using social media to connect with their customers/audience.  These networks include Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube, and blogging.

According to the article, social networking poses many benefits to trucking companies including:

-An accessible information database that allows trucking companies to improve their fleets (for example, by posting available trailers, saving the company deadhead mileage costs) and provide support to their customers

-Interaction with employees via private or public groups

-Makes it easier for current customers to connect with the company, allowing them the ability to be alerted of discounts, news, and voice their opinion/interact with other customers on a carrier’s service

-Opens the company to a wider range of prospects with the ability to connect with individuals from specific locations

As the article notes, social media’s “effective use can bring about a competitive advantage, with adoption ensuring not only survival but also success in an increasingly competitive global marketplace,” further explaining that “their value is game-changing and clearly a new frontier worth further and ongoing exploration” (http://www.ttnews.com/articles/basetemplate.aspx?storyid=26999).  So beneficial, in fact, that more and more trucking companies are using it, with “56% of respondents reporting that social media was very important to their business strategy, a number that jumped from 43% in 2009,” the article continues.

This is not something new to Road Scholar, who has been using all five platforms for over a year now.  Below are ways in which you can connect with Road Scholar:

Road Scholar and the NFL Tackle Breast Cancer On and Off the Field

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

For years now, NFL teams have been huddling up to tackle breast cancer.  Take the Philadelphia Eagles for example.  Every year they participate in the Tackling Breast Cancer (TBC) campaign.  Last year, proceeds from Breast Cancer merchandise sold during two of the Eagles’ games, as well as online, profited the Jefferson Breast Care Center.

The Philadelphia Eagles is not the only team pushing their way through the field in goal of a cure, teams such as the Titans, Steelers, Vikings, Giants, Cowboys, and many others, competed in last year’s NFL Breast Cancer Awareness Games.  In support of a cure, coaches and staff wore pink ribbon pins, sold Madden NFL 09 Pink video games whose proceeds went to the Deanna Favre HOPE Foundation, passed out pink ribbons at the entrance gates, and many players participated by wearing pink gloves and shoes.

The NFL is not the only organization taking strides against breast cancer.  Road Scholar Transport has been spreading awareness nationwide, not only for the American Breast Cancer Foundation, but for Alex’s Lemonade, Autism Speaks, the Children’s Tumor Foundation, Prostate Cancer Awareness, International RETT Syndrome Foundation, St. Joseph’s Center, American Foundation for the Blind, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, The Flight 93 National Memorial, and American Red Cross.

Through the use of rolling billboards, and your business, Road Scholar Transport has vowed to travel 10 million miles in order to help spread awareness of the many diseases and conditions battling innocent lives today.  Visit http://www.roadscholar.com/ourcharities.html for more information and pictures of our awareness trailers.

Football fan?  Then step onto the field and compete in Road Scholar’s NFL Challenge.  Go to http://www.roadscholar.com/contestgames.html to sign up!
