It’s the Season of Miracles Thanks to Make-A-Wish

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

While we struggle with last minute Christmas shopping, Make-A-Wish is giving children something that cannot be bought in a store…their dream come true.

So was the cause with Gabriel Hinton, Kyana Willis, Krystal, and Jordan who received the best Christmas wish they could ever ask for.

According to sandsprisleader.com, six-year-old Gabriel Hinton, suffering from hypoplastic left heart syndrome, was able to travel to Disney World, Universal Studies, and Sea World last month and fulfill any little boy’s wish…to meet his favorite superheroes.  Gabriel was able to get autographs from Marvel Comics Super Heroes, along with his picture with the group.

Kyana Willis had a similar dream.  She wanted to meet all the characters living in Walt Disney World, including Mickey Mouse.  The nine-year-old who has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia was able to have her dream fulfilled with the help of West Florence High School, whose previous and current students donated to the cause, allowing Kyana to hop on a plane today and enter the land of where magic begins (http://www2.scnow.com/news/2010/dec/14/nine-year-old-battling-cancer-gets-wish-granted-ar-1223304/).

Fifteen-year-old Krystal, who is missing three chambers in her heart, hoped to visit Disney World as well, but she isn’t exactly excited about meeting the characters.  Her dream is to be a princess.  Krystal’s dream will become reality soon as she travels to Disney World dressed as a princess for a photo shoot (http://www.kpvi.com/story.php?id=34009&n=15206).

So what about Jordan?  Did he get to go to Disney World like the others?

No.  Instead, seventeen-year-old Jordan who has Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, traveled to last week’s Dallas Cowboy’s football game where he not only watched the game, but got to meet the players as well (http://www.wrex.com/Global/story.asp?S=13671891).

Text a Wish This Christmas

Monday, December 6th, 2010

You sign up for daily horoscope texts, text your vote for your favorite singer on American Idol, and enter text contests all the time.

Let’s face it, many of us would be lost without the internet on our phone, the ability to text, or to be able to snap a picture at a moment’s notice.  So why not put your phone to use this holiday season?

The Greater Pennsylvania and Southern West Virginia Make-A-Wish Foundation chapters have launched a text campaign, the first for their foundation.

The campaign is determined to gain new supporters by giving them a different/more convenient way to donate.

It only takes a couple of seconds, just text WISH to 90999.  You can donate five times per phone, contributing $5 per text, deducted from your phone bill or prepaid account.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants children (2 ½-18 years old) with life-threatening conditions their wish, whether it is a trip to Disney World, meeting their favorite celebrity, or even just a toy they want.
