Why choose Road Scholar Transport?

Monday, September 13th, 2010

EXPERTISE: Road Scholar Transport has been in business since 1988, when owner Jim Barrett leased a tractor trailer, and with his wife Debra taking on the role of dispatcher, laid the groundwork for what grew to be an industry of approximately 95 drivers and tractors, over 350 trailers, and ten owner operators…and it all started with one leased tractor trailer and a dream.

SERVICES: Need it there fast?  No problem.  Road Scholar Transport offers 24 hour expedited shipping (dock-to-dock with NO transfers) and 48 hour west coast service.  With 48 and 53 foot trailer availability, and van, reefer, freezer, and heater options, be assured that whatever your freight is, Road Scholar can transport it.  Key service areas include the Mid-Atlantic and New England areas (Eastern VA to ME) but we not limited to those areas by any means.  Our trucks are often seen throughout the nation!

All of our trailers are air ride and reefers contain a remote temperature setting via a secure website, so you can rest tight that your cargo is safe.  That, and the fact that Road Scholar Transport has a 0.0001% damage rate and never suffered a full cargo loss.  Our drivers are HazMat certified and underwent emergency response procedure training to know what to do if anything should ever happen.

With our online tools, you can get a quote from customer service within 10 minutes, schedule a pickup, track a shipment, online document retrieval, fuel surcharges, pre-populate your shipping locations, print a BOL, get an auto rate quote, and much more.  How much easier can it get?

SECURITY FEATURES: Don’t wait for something to happen to your freight before you look into which trucking industries have the best security.  It takes perpetrators less than 90 seconds to defeat a truck’s security features and steal your freight.  Any longer than that, they move on to another target.  With Road Scholar, thieves would be running away from our security features.

Our tractor trailers feature SkyBitz (mapping the most recent, and historical, positions of all vehicles, e-mail and/or pager alerts sent out in the event of a status change, and reports/alerts of door openings and closures).  With cargo cam, covert, assisted GPS cargo tracking, bolt and cable seals, tamper evident tapes and seals, truck, trailer, and container locks and seals, your cargo is safe from thieves.

Road Scholar Transport also has Qualcomm distress/panic messaging, which features panic buttons to prevent operation of a vehicle, roof decals for aerial tracking, and facility security.

HELPING OTHERS: Road Scholar Transport has a social conscious as well.  If you haven’t heard by now, our company created the 10 Million Miles to a Cure Awareness Campaign.  We have many trailers dedicated to different charities/organizations such as, but not limited to:  Alex’s Lemonade, Autism Speaks, American Breast Cancer Foundation, Children’s Tumor Foundation, Prostate Cancer Awareness, International Rett Syndrome Foundation, St. Joseph’s Center, American Foundation for the Blind, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN), The Flight 93 National Memorial, and The American Red Cross.  Through the use of these rolling billboards, we will travel 10 million miles in order to help spread awareness and hopefully save the lives of thousands.  Visit www.roadscholar.com/awareness to learn more about our campaign and to view our awareness trucks.

Premature Deaths Emerging As a Result of Particulate Pollution

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Stepping out to breathe in the fresh air is not exactly what’s happening throughout the United States.  In fact, it can cost you your life.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) stated that recent studies show individuals are dying a premature death caused by particle pollution nationwide (http://www.truckinginfo.com/news/news-detail.asp?news_id=71543).

According to truckinginfo.com, between 7,300 and 11,000 premature deaths caused by fine particulate pollution occur each year in California, a state that is less industrial than others.

The site notes that fine particulates are emitted from numerous sources, “the exhaust of diesel engines” being one of them.

Efforts to reduce this pollution are being taken by people in the trucking industry.  Road Scholar Transport is one of them, bringing in 12 tractors within the next few months which will give off way less diesel particulate than the 2004 engines, at a ratio of 1:42!

Road Scholar Transport is concerned with the health of Americans, which is why we have created the 10 Million Miles to a Cure Awareness Campaign.  Through this initiative, Road Scholar hopes to spread awareness of the many diseases/conditions battling the lives of millions today and help move one step closer to a cure.

Glad You Had Your Vitamin D Today? Well You Will Be

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

As the saying goes, milk makes your body good…and it may be in more ways than you think.

According to medicalnewstoday.com, around 1 billion people in the United States may not be getting enough Vitamin D in their system.

As the Vitamin D Council notes, lack of Vitamin D intake makes people more susceptible to diseases such as “autism, autoimmune illness, chronic pain, depression, diabetes, heart disease, hyperparathyroidism, hypertension, influenza, myopathy (neuromuscular disorders), and osteoporosis”  (http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/treatment.shtml).  As if that list isn’t long enough, there is now one more to add ….cancer.

Medical News Today states that scientists have found a link between Vitamin D and the genes that cause cancer.  Don’t you wish you had your Vitamin D now?

So how do you make sure that you are getting enough?  Well it’s as simple as increasing your Vitamin D intake, which can be found in foods/drinks such as fish, egg yolk, liver and (surprise!) milk.

Want another option?  Go out in the sun!  That’s right, sun exposure is another good source of Vitamin D.  But what if you don’t want to get burned; does staying in the house on a hot day mean that you are not getting the Vitamin D you necessarily need?  Not exactly.  According to Ezine Articles, the average American requires only 2-3 hours in the sun a week to maintain a normal Vitamin D level; this number is greater for darker skinned individuals and those who are overweight (http://ezinearticles.com/?Vitamin-D-From-Sun-Exposure—How-Much-Do-You-Need?&id=4406314).

While you are out in the sun soaking up your Vitamin D, be on the lookout for Road Scholar Transport’s awareness trailers.  Road Scholar Transport is on a mission to make people aware of the many diseases battling lives today, vowing to travel 10,000,000 millions in order to spread awareness for the following organizations:  Autism Speaks, International Rett Syndrome Foundation, American Foundation for the Blind, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, St. Joseph’s Center, and The American Red Cross.

Road Scholar also has trailers spreading awareness for different cancers such as:  Alex’s Lemonade, American Breast Cancer Foundation, Children’s Tumor Foundation, Prostate Cancer Awareness, and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN).

Visit www.roadscholar.com/awareness to learn more about Road Scholar Transport’s awareness program and to view our awareness trailers.

Have someone that you want to make sure gets the message?  Send them an awareness e-card at http://www.roadscholar.com/ecards.html.  A simple reminder to get an annual examination can make all the difference.

Know someone who is already battling a disease?  Leave them a Message of Hope on Road Scholar’s message board or memorialize someone who has already passed away by visiting http://roadscholar10.setupmyblog.com/.
