PANCAN

This month is pancreatic cancer awareness month and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN)’s Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Affiliate is striving to spread awareness and raise funds with their second annual Cheers to Hope fundraiser occurring this Saturday, November 5th.

Clayton's Hope

But this won’t be the only event Road Scholar will be at on Saturday.  Road Scholar Transport’s Clayton’s Hope truck will be headed to Sewell, NJ for the 5th annual Steps for Seizure event.

This 2-mile walk begins at 10 am (regardless of weather) at the Washington Lake Park amphitheatre with check in at 9 am.  Those wanting to participate can do so online at http://www.claytonshope.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=23&Itemid=44 or in person the day of the event.  Registration is $15 per person or $40 for a family up to 5.

In conjunction with the walk there will be refreshments, snacks, face painting, an appearance by Road Scholar’s Clayton’s Hope truck, and live concert which will go on at the end of the walk.

Popular Epilepsy Drug Recalled Due to Wooden Pallet Problems

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

Johnson & Johnson has issued another recall, this time for the popular epilepsy drug Topamax, used to prevent seizures.

Topamax

Nearly 57,000 bottles of 100-milligram tablets sold between October and January 2010 with lot numbers OKG110 and OLG222 are being recalled, with less than 6,000 still claimed to be on shelves, according to ABC News.

The company issued the recall after receiving four concerns about an “uncharacteristic odor,” which could result in short-term gastrointestinal problems, The Wall Street Journal explains.

Johnson & Johnson believes that the smell being reported is TBA, “a byproduct of a chemical preservative sometimes used to treat wooden pallets,” (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703983104576262873794364328.html?mod=googlenews_wsj)

The company has already taken measures back in January of last year to ensure that this did not happen, including a verification process with suppliers to make sure they did not use pallets that were chemically treated, the site notes.

Johnson & Johnson is now investigating the mislabeling of these pallets as well as other products that could have been affected.

It is very important that pharmaceuticals are transported properly or else it could result in contamination of the product and health affects for the consumer.  That’s why Road Scholar Transport provides temperature protect services for those products that must be stored at certain temperatures as well as trucks that are highly equipped with the newest security features.

Clayton's Hope

Road Scholar Transport will even transport your epilepsy medications with our Clayton’s Hope awareness trailer!

Clayton’s Hope, an organization benefitting epilepsy research, is just one of several foundations Road Scholar has awareness trailers dedicated to.

Francesca Scarano Spreads Hope Nationwide With the Help of Road Scholar Transport

Francesco Scarano

Francesca Scarano (Charlotte Bartizek/ For The Dallas Post)

See this girl?  Her name is Francesca Scarano and she has RETT Syndrome.

Francesca recently partook in Misericordia University’s seventh annual Cougar Cheer Dance Challenge on November 14th.  Her, and several other special needs children, make up the Guided Starz cheering team.

See this girl again?  She is traveling the nation spreading awareness to millions of people about RETT Syndrome without

even leaving her house.

This is made possible with Road Scholar Transport’s 10 Million Miles to a Cure Awareness Campaign.

Let me explain.

Francesca was diagnosed at one year old with RETT Syndrome.

RETT Syndrome is a developmental disorder affecting mostly girls, “caused by mutations on the X chromosome” and causing “problems in brain function” (www.rettsyndrome.org).

To support the cause, Road Scholar Transport decided to create not one, not two, but three awareness trailers dedicated to RETT Syndrome awareness, incorporating Francesca’s picture on each trailer.

The RETT Syndrome Foundation is joined with Alex’s Lemonade, Autism Speaks, The American Breast Cancer Foundation, The Children’s Tumor Foundation, Prostate Cancer Awareness, St. Joseph’s Center, The American Foundation for the Blind, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, The Flight 93 National Memorial, The American Red Cross, Clayton’s Hope, Children’s Craniofacial Foundation, Make a Wish Foundation, and Children’s Cancer Recovery Foundation, in the Fight for a Cure.

Help sponsor a drug in honor of Francesco by visiting http://www.rsrt.org/news/Sponsor-a-Drug.html.
